Is Mom or her spouse a war-time veteran? If so, call the veterans service office and apply for the Aid and Attendance benefit. It is about $1200 per month, and will help her money stretch for a few more months. It looks like she should make it to the top of the Medicaid list in about two years if she has moved almost 12000 spots in five years.

If the veteran help is not an option, call your local Area Agency on Aging (called Aging Partners in some areas) and ask them for suggestions. They may know of other programs available in your location.

Hi ptuttle - I feel your pain, but I don't know anything about MD. I'm amazed your Mom could private pay for 5 years. My mother has a similar monthly income but no savings, so can't even get started in assisted living. :(
